Birth of a Player

A story of one man and his journey across a world that is brutal as it is complex…
Michael finds himself in a new realm with no memory of how he got there or who he is. Even so, he must participate in the Grand Game and forge a place for himself. He and his fellow candidates are forced into a dungeon configured with all manner of deadly challenges, with the sole goal of proving their worth to the mysterious Master and his minions. But all is not as it seems, and Michael must decide whether he will follow the path set down for him. Or his own.

Player, Power, or Pawn? Hero or Villain?
Legion are the choices before Michael and many are the paths, he may tread. Wolf. Assassin. Caster. Michael can be all of these things. Or none of them. But despite the Forces that tug at him, and no matter the enemies arrayed against him, Michael’s destiny is in his hands alone. Only he can decide his fate.

An epic fantasy saga…
This is a sword and sorcery adventure, chockful of wizards, magic, cunning, and allies who are not always what they seem. It is a story that will keep you guessing, molding old themes and new into an epic tale that will keep you reading well past when you should…

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good!

Read all 3 books in the omnibus straight through. Good plot, good MC. Makes some mistakes but learns and grows from them. Reasonable progression and power, just right.

4.0 out of 5 stars rather different.

Enjoyed the collection. The premise is a bit different and there is some strong characterization, overall an enjoyable read with lots of curve balls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique story

I did not know what to expect, which is good because even though I started reading this a bit confused, with many preconceived ideas as to what I thought was going to happen, I never once was correct on those guesses, thankfully enough as it turns out. Very unique story, and I power read through all of them in a weekend. Waiting now for book 7. Excellent read, captivating and extremely entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really engaging

Not sure wear we are headed but its a fun ride to get there. It's really nice that magic actually takes effort rather than instacast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recomended.

Just finished the omnibus. Loved it. I am not a gamer, but found this way of writing easy to understand. Just want to know when more books from this writer are coming out?

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing action adventure thrill ride

Quite literally, I loved everything about these books. It has everything I want: action, drama, violence, humor, great dialog and settings, and to top it off an amazing story. Two of my friends read these and recommended them. Once I started, I couldn't put it down. I read the first omnibus in three weeks. I will surely be buying the rest of the series. Truly a masterpiece, thank you Mr. Elliot!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great Series!!!

I started reading this when I got the omnibus of the 1st three books for cheap$$. What a great find!! This is my first LitRPG book. It will not be my last!!!! The story of Michael is fast paced and action packed. The story progression is standard but with the introduction of the gaming stats makes it great for all the D&D and Gamers out there to follow the story very quickly and easily. I was sucked right in to the story and red it in three days. Bought the rest of the books to read for the weekend. Now that I'm all caught up, can't wait for the next one in September. Hail House Wolf!!!

The Grand Game

A gargantuan tome consisting of the first three novels in the Grand Game series. Birth of a player is a phenomenal compilation of one players' progression through a world rich in detail. Monsters, minions, malevolent powers and militia, this series has it all. All three books perfectly encapsulated the experience I wanted from a litrpg, the exploration elements are handled with the perfect balance of detail that keeps the plot moving forward consistently without being bogged down in over explaining chasms and rooms. Combat is swift and impressive in how it handles various class interactions while still feeling visceral and demanding. Challenges are met and overcome in a variety of approaches reminiscent of DnD suggestions at the game table that bring a smile to your face. I genuinely think I would struggle to put into words succinctly how impressed I am with this series and how excited I am for the second volume to cover books 4,5 & 6. All in all an engaging, fun and sometimes dark series told in a way that feels realistic in its choices and story progression despite being firmly in a classic fantasy setting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Disturbingly entralling.

I did not expect to like this book. I am not an avid gamer, though I have played a game here or there, and so did not expecte to particularly like litrpg. I was so very wrong. Tom Elliot spins a tale that had me reading well past what was probably healthy, plowing through the entire omnibus in a matter of a few days. Michael is a well-written character whose travails in the Forever Kingdom follow those all RPG players face. That it is described so well tugs at that experience; but even if you have never played a single minute of the myriad of RPGs out there, it will still suck you in. The characters are too well-written, the world-building too well-fleshed out, and the story far too intriguing not to suck you into marathon reading sessions. Don't start this book if you only have a few minutes here or there to read it. You will find yourself looking at the clock and suddenly realizing hours have passed, much like a good role-playing game should.
